Where I've Been: Rye, New Hampshire

If you read my "Happy Weekend" post, you would know I spent the weekend in Boston & New Hampshire visiting family (might I find another place to visit? This marks 3 trips to Boston this year! I'm definitely not complaining). If you read that post, you would remember that I packed a bathing suit, beach hat, shorts, tees, etc. If you take a look at the photos above, you will gather that it wasn't exactly beach-worthy weather. I should have known, Boston's summer doesn't actually begin (consistently) until July. But I had my hopes up, regardless. My Uncle, who's lived in the area his entire life, even had the boat ready for us with those same high hopes. It was 55 & rainy the entire weekend...which was definitely okay because we filled our time with seafood, home videos, & junk food, instead. That in itself is worth the trip.

We usually spend most of our time at Salisbury Beach & eat seafood at a local New Hampshire spot called, "Markey's" (better than Brown's, sorry). This time around, we thought we'd drive 15 minutes further up the coast to Rye, New Hampshire & try out a new seafood spot: Petey's. I knew I'd love it as soon as I saw pops of neon hanging from all sides of the building.

As many times as I've been to the New England area, last year was the first time I actually tried steamed clams (I finally built up the guts to try them...). To my surprise, they were delicious. & ooey, gooey fun to eat. It's a menu item that definitely makes you feel proud that you're indulging in steamed clams. It makes you feel confident enough to sign up for Survivor & try anything gross they want to throw at you. Have you tried them? Did you look first? I hope not!

& if you're wondering, their clam chowda & scallops are top notch, don't worry.

So, there you have it! Petey's in Rye, New Hampshire is an authentic & fun place to indulge in New England seafood right next to the scenic Ocean Boulevard + Ocean View if ever you're in the area. Or just want to make the special trip for it!
